Here's a starting guide for new members!
(HOW TO GET STARTED---)
Well, first you work out what sort of character you would like. We prefer first-time roleplayers to take on the role of a student as it’s the most simple character to play without needing much experience, and it will help you get used to creative writing and spelling/grammar. In choosing a student, you must choose a house for your character to be in. We have five to choose from.
Sometimes it’s easier to find a picture and come up with a character from the picture. Others come up with a character in their heads and try to find a matching picture. Either way, there are some SMA icons for you to use provided in your profile page. If you have any suggestions or questions regarding icons, please ask in The Nonmagic World board.
If you aren’t new to the world of writing and roleplaying, feel free to take a look at the Who of SMA, which has other occupations needed within the school, such as professors, student bodies, etc.
For the more advanced writers, or for those who already have a student and can prove themselves to the Principal or Vice-Principal, there is the option of taking on a creature role such as a werewolf or centaur. We would prefer a separate student and a creature account, to simply keep the student body up (this is a school, after all!), though we won’t hold you back. But in taking on the role of a creature, you must be aware that every creature is different in how they relate to the rest of the site. For example, there are the Centaur race, who generally prefer to stay among their herd and would be deemed a relatively part-time account.
We will not restrict you on ideas of creatures than the listed ones we have, and welcome absolutely original ideas that you may have that may not even exist yet. Just keep in mind to run any original races by Principal Avau via IM.
(BIOGRAPHIES---)
Once you’ve chosen what your character will be, we require you to fill out your character application or "biography" in the Biographies board in the main page. This is our application for you to fill out. It’s our way of helping you flesh out your character traits, as well as the admin changing the status below your name to fit your profile. You may also choose to play an "NPC" character if you don't have any ideas for your own character just yet. All info in detail is in the Biographies board.
In summation:
If you have absolutely ANY questions, any at all, feel free to send a personal message to Principal Avau or Vice-Principal Ahmed. Above all, ENJOY your roleplaying experience.
Welcome to SMA and happy creating!
